Cathexis enters new era with CatVision software

October 2012 News & Events

With the release of its latest CatVision software suite earlier this year, Cathexis Technologies has entered a new era for the company and its customers. Until recently, Cathexis surveillance software operated only on hardware supplied by Cathexis. The new CatVision software can now be loaded onto any Windows or Linux servers.

“The CatVision software provides an open platform to the marketplace and follows the trends in the IP video world,” says Catafrica MD, Gus Brecher.

Cathexis has also continued the integration of third-party vendors’ cameras, having completed most of the popular brands available on the market. This process is ongoing as new IP cameras are continuously being introduced to the market.

Cathexis has not forgotten its legacy client base though, ensuring that its latest offering also encompasses analogue and hybrid systems. “This is extremely important as we have loyal clients out there who have been using our equipment for up to 15 years. There are some customers that would like to embrace the new IP video trends, including megapixel and NAS storage, while still using their existing equipment,” says Brecher.

“Our new CatVision architecture enables the new technology and legacy equipment to function seamlessly and harmoniously, ensuring backward compatibility and future system relevance.”

Cathexis has recently introduced free software downloads which will enable potential users to install the software for assessment.

CatObserver launched

Most recently, Cathexis has added a monitor recording application to its CatVision software suite. CatObserver enables any monitor connected to any computer on a network to be streamed, stored and viewed, as if it were an IP camera.

Imagine an operator following a suspect through an area and switching between several cameras. In the normal situation, if you wanted to archive the cameras in question, you would have to find the relevant footage on each camera and then archive them sequentially. If the operators’ monitor was being recorded using CatObserver, you would only have to archive the CatObserver recording as it will contain all the cameras that the operator viewed.

The feature also enables the recording of other computer screens like point of sale monitors. “The options really are unlimited,” says Brecher.

The feature is easy to use and the monitored video streams can be configured in terms of bitrates, resolution and frame rates; exactly like an IP camera.
