Omni 400 offers price and performance

May 2002 News & Events

Designed for quick and easy installation, the new FBII OMNI-400 control panel -available through TeqTrader - is suitable for the home, apartment or office.

Standard features include eight fully programmable zones, 15 user codes, built-in telephone line monitor, 128 event log, four totally programmable trigger outputs and up to 10 relays. "For price and performance, it is the best control panel in its class," says TeqTrader's Frank Fowles.

"TeqTrader will be putting the full weight of our service and support infrastructure behind this product and the other units in the range. In addition to our dedicated support division that will look after customer needs in the field and our repair department, we are also presenting dedicated training courses on the OMNI range at our countrywide training centres."

Training harnesses TeqTrader's new WEBINAR concept that facilitates fully interactive live training sessions direct from New York and covers the complete OMNI panel range. "The OMNI 400 is an entry level security system recommended for the smaller home. From an installer's point of view, it is user-friendly and reliable," says Fowles.

Versatile control zone

This unit, facilitating 15 user codes, features unattended downloading, up to eight fully programmable zones and a 128 event history with time and date stamp - a very useful facility for the verification of events for insurance purposes, while the alarmed telephone line monitor is key security feature, especially for the domestic user.

The Omni 400 also features four emergency keypad conditions - fire, panic, aux and duress. Its versatile controlled zone types include instant, exit/entry, interior, day and keyswitch, with options for fast loop response, restore and chime by zone, while its 24 hour zone types include fire, burglary, silent, trouble and medical.

Offering expandability on wired zones as well as wireless zones, OMNI is easy for the installer to work with due to its unique zone-doubling feature, which is standard on all panels. "With OMNI you can actually choose which zones to commence zone doubling from," says Fowles. "In addition, seamless keypad compatibility facilitates the use of one model keypad across the entire range."

Additional features include Cancel Code, Installer Walk Test and a realtime clock with a reminder when time needs to be reset. Chimes can be set on or off via the keypad, which also has a tamper function with optional CS transmission.

'Follow me' format

OMNI is an alarm system users can carry with them via its 'follow me' domestic dialling format. This is a programmable feature, which allows the user to key in a contact telephone number as he or she is leaving through a simple command on the keypad. This could be any telephone or pager number at all and it can be a different one every time. In the event of an activation of the system, the control room will receive its signal as usual but in addition the number programmed in to the system will also automatically be called and the person will hear a special alarm audio beep indicating that the system has been activated.

Remote commands include arm, disarm, bypass zones, change user codes and read system status and remote operations can be performed through PC Downloader. Upload and download remote operations of all system features and functions are possible via a single call, using the FBII answering machine bypass.

The OMNI 400's LED keypad displays the status of each individual zone, with indications of alarm, trouble, tamper, stay, bypass, instant, power and not ready conditions. Comprising models 400, 600, 408, 624, 848 the OMNI range offers a variety of options and features is expandable across the board for the full range of residential right through to medium and large commercial applications.

"At the end of the day an alarm system is ultimately judged on its reliability and a lot of systems are very prone to spurious signals. The ideal is a control panel that provides a high degree of protection against lightning strikes, especially in Gauteng. Over the years, FBII has proven itself to be extremely reliable in the South African context and we believe that this, in conjunction with its many attractive features and flexibility, will prove an attractive combination for installers and end users alike," concludes intrusion product manager, Dave Fraser.
