Two Securex shows make security solutions more accessible

South Africa's leading security, safety and protection exhibition - Securex - runs again in Johannesburg this year from 21 to 23 June.

With over 130 exhibitors taking up two halls, this year's Gauteng event promises to be the biggest to date.

Aimed at members of the trade who consider issues of business and personal security, protection and safety to be of paramount importance, this year's show is set to be the most comprehensive exhibition yet - a clear indication of the industry's growing need for an event of this nature.

For the past 13 years, the Johannesburg exhibition has showcased the latest developments in the security industry and now, due to popular request, the first Securex Cape will also take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 27 to 29 September.

As the security market continues to undergo rapid changes and developments to compensate for a changing world and ever-smarter criminals, so too does Securex. Security, safety and protection advancements are happening at such a pace that it is difficult for business decision makers and those in charge of security operations to keep track. Securex Johannesburg and Cape 2006 aim to make this task easier and the emerging security technologies and solutions more accessible.

Just some of this year's security trends include those in digital video recording (DVR) technology as courts worldwide start to accept digital video evidence for playback during trials. IP technology is also becoming more mainstream in the security industry, enabling virtual monitoring and significant cost savings.

Supply chain, cargo and transport security continue to be major areas of concern and anti-counterfeiting solutions, for protection against document fraud and identity document duplication, is another fast-growing interest area - a direct result of the development of, graphic technologies, colour copies, the Internet and digital cameras.

Multitechnology smartcards for multiple applications and biometric identification continue to witness rapid take up and fire protection is another major buzzword doing the rounds on a global scale.

Encompassing all of these aspects, the convergence of IT and physical security for cost savings and improved efficiencies is the over-riding trend.

Securex 2006 will present the latest answers to all of these concerns, and more.
