Elvey expands into Europe

March/April 2002 News & Events

Hudaco Industries, a distributor of industrial, automotive and security related products, recently announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Elvey Security Technologies (Elsec) has expanded its activities into the UK market.

Elsec has secured the exclusive rights to distribute DSC alarm control products in the UK. DSC of Canada is one of the largest manufacturers of this equipment in the world and has been represented exclusively by Elsec in the South African market for the past eleven years.

Elsec has acquired Verifier, a Midlands-based distributor of electronic security equipment, and in April 2002 will purchase the current UK distributor of DSC products. The businesses will be merged into new premises in Birmingham and renamed Elvey Security Technologies (UK) with sales of R80m per annum. Additional acquisitions to complement this small foothold in the UK market have already been identified but they will only be considered once the current acquisitions perform to plan.

Stephen Connelly, Hudaco Industries CEO says, "The world-wide market for security systems and solutions is growing rapidly and is one industry where, because of the high domestic crime rate, South African companies find themselves at the forefront of technology. These acquisitions present an opportunity to export Elsec's electronic security distribution and support experience to the UK market. Whilst the investment is unlikely to impact on group earnings this year, it considerably enhances prospects for future years."

Paul Wainstein, Elsec CEO adds, "We have built our South African company with the best people available, who have been well trained to give our customers unprecedented service and support. In this way we have gained the respect and loyalty of our many valuable customers. We intend to apply this formula together with our many years of experience in the intruder detection and CCTV security industry in our new UK business.

"Elsec UK will be promoting leading edge electronic security technology on an exclusive basis, allowing the company to offer a unique standard of training and support to the customers. We intend to provide an ongoing commitment to the security industry in the UK and our new business is expected to flourish, giving a breath of fresh air to a rapidly growing but until now traditionally serviced market," concludes Wainstein.
