CS Holdings and ControlSoft partner in time & attendance and access control interface development.

Frontline labour management specialist CS Frontline and access control specialist ControlSoft have entered into a joint venture agreement to develop a single interface to link their products. The interface will eradicate duplication and save download time enabling more effective control systems management for corporate users of these products.

CS Frontline, a subsidiary of CS Holdings, is the sole distributor of US-based Kronos software and hardware products. Kronos is a vendor of labour management systems to measure, process and deliver information about employee time and work activities. It is a leading product in SA and has 65% of the US market.

ControlSoft specialises in developing high level access and security control systems. Its products include the KeyMaster Pro industrial-strength on-line access control and building monitoring application. Major clients include Vodacom, the SA Mint, AngloGold, Amplats and Total SA.

Both Kronos and ControlSoft products have interface options to a wide variety of other systems enabling realtime updates to help companies better manage their staff and security operations.

The single interface will combine information flowing from Kronos' time and attendance system and ControlSoft's access and security control systems to client payroll systems, picking up errors and incongruities and strengthening the effectiveness of both systems while improving the accuracy of client payroll systems.

"We wanted to offer our clients a high quality access and security control solution," says CS Frontline MD Andre Matthysen. "We sought an access and security control partner to enable this. We chose ControlSoft after a thorough market evaluation. Although Kronos does have access control it does not have the extensive range of features ControlSoft's system has. ControlSoft's product offers very advanced features in the areas of staff entry control, visitor control and building control all based on high-end swipe card technology.

"There is a good technology fit as we are all Windows NT-based," says Matthysen.

"We have been looking for a top-end time and attendance application to tie up with for a long time," says ControlSoft MD Russell Wagstaff. "We see Kronos as the leading product in this arena and are very excited about the venture and the opportunities it will open up," he says. Matthysen says there is a huge trend to high-level frontline labour management systems as employers are under increased pressure to keep down salary and wage costs. This can only be done through streamlining business processes by introducing more electronic time and attendance systems. "Manual entry and checking of time and attendance sheets wastes skilled management resources whose time would be better used managing staff and finding more efficient ways of working," says Matthysen.

"A good access and security control system is a logical extension to any labour management system as it enables you to monitor and control staff movement throughout your premises. As a result employers looking for time and attendance solutions are often also looking for a good access and security control system."
