Multivid's attention to quality brings new lease on life to Witspos mail Depot.

August '99 Surveillance

Multivid was recently awarded the CCTV upgrade of the control system and auto dome PTZ cameras installation at the Witspos Mail Sorting Depot, Ormonde. The SA Post Office Security and Investigations Department for the Witwatersrand Region, under the leadership of Baldwin Neshunzhi decided to upgrade the existing system as it no longer fulfilled their needs.

The new control system is based on the high quality Panasonic matrix and multiplexer combination, which allows for 128 inputs to the matrix and 96 multiplexed images to the triplexers. The new 16 channel Panasonic Triplexer with integrated telemetry control facilities can record and play back while at the same time viewing one of the played back pictures in realtime for alarm recording purposes.

Said Anton Johl, Sales and Marketing Director of Multivid, "The requirement at Witspos is a complex one, with ever changing requirements that had to be considered when engineering the new solution." The system will now comprise 30 high-speed auto domes with auto-focusing capabilities, together with 68 high resolution fixed cameras for general surveillance of the open plan areas.

Added Johl, "Lightning protection engineering formed a fair portion of the cost of the upgrade and only approved mains, video and data protection devices were considered. It is imperative when engineering a lightning protection solution that all aspects of surges are taken into consideration. This was not previously addressed and resulted in many failures due to the lack of surge protection."

Multivid is an ISO 9002 listed company with Jan De Beer, the Technical Director, being the quality management professional. This quality system guarantees the client of the best possible result when addressing any of the turnkey electronic security requirements such as fire detection, access control, audio evacuation, CCTV and intrusion.
