Accyss goes biometric

April 2005 Access Control & Identity Management

Accsys has extended its Time Manager range of products and systems to incorporate biometric technology, which is fast becoming a global trend in access control, payroll and work floor management.

"Biometric technology is the way we anticipate the business will go. There is already a growing demand for the technology because of the high level of security offered by fingerprint access," says Accsys MD, Teryl Schroenn.

"A fraud-proof system that identifies workers by unique physical attributes can significantly minimise losses," says Schroenn. "In this way, problem areas can be identified and addressed through appropriate and constructive initiatives. The Accsys Time Manager realtime online solution is an effective access control system that provides managers with a unique and total solution to time management."

The local development by Accsys has made biometric fingerprint access control an affordable and simple option, saving the trouble of having many backup cards or tags for visitors. "We developed and built the software and hardware locally, as we have been doing with all our products. We are proud to be South African and using South African know-how. In development, our system has proved to be reliable and stable, and we are proud to offer a local product of a high standard that is very cost effective," says Schroenn.

The biometric access control system integrates seamlessly with other Accsys time and attendance systems, including the clocking system and turnstiles as part of its Time Management System solution. When connected to this system, APTM (Accsys Peopleware Time Manager) software records all access events, acting as an employee and visitor tracker to give an accurate view of who is in the building at any given time, improving both security and health and safety.

The system also provides users with access control, time and attendance management and shopfloor data collection on top of activating doors, booms and turnstiles. It can also be harmonised with payroll, another strongpoint of Accsys Peopleware Time Manager.
