ITW Envopak heads visit SA

April 2006 News & Events

Roger Shores, president of ITW Industrial Plastics and Metals, the holding company of ITW Envopak, distributor and manufacturer of security seals in the world, recently paid a visit to South African distributor Vikela Aluvin.

Commenting on the state of the local security sealing industry, as well as globally, Shores says he remains buoyant about the prospects and opportunities.

He concedes that, since 9/11, the security industry has undergone significant changes worldwide. Exporting to the US has come under a special spotlight, making it essential for exporters to comply with the new and much stricter procedures such as those stipulated in the C-TPAT initiative.

"Gone are the days when one can use any seal from any supplier. It has become essential to work with professional outfits that are au fait with the new regulations and who have genuinely compliant products to match them," argues Shores.

"Innovation is key to succeeding in a demanding security environment, and it is clearly advantageous for our customers to have access to a company like ITW Envopak," says Vikela Aluvin MD, Kevin Norwitz.

Norwitz adds that this innovation and the ability to respond quickly - especially in the supply of high-security seals - is especially important in light of the recently-signed framework of standards, which includes the use of high-security seals on shipping containers as set out in the ISO 17712 document.

Concerning the supply of high-security seals, in future the spotlight will fall not only on the physical product, but also on the quality systems that will need to be complied with in order to meet the full requirements of ISO 17712. This document will be revised and reissued shortly to include the normative annexe relating to the manufacture and supply of high-security seals.
