Sharing knowledge at IFSEC SA 2014

May 2014 Conferences & Events

Not only is IFSEC SA the recipient of the Best Trade Show (6001 m² – 12 000 m² in extent) award by the Exhibition and Event Association of Southern Africa (EXSA), but it also provides a completely free opportunity for fire and security professionals to listen to industry-pertinent topics at the IFSEC SA Seminar Theatre.

“We have a content-rich line-up for the visitors to IFSEC SA 2014, taking place between 13 and 15 May at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. Commencing at 10:15 daily, the seminar sessions will run until 15:00, with 15 minute intervals. We are very excited about the high standard of the 12 sessions scheduled over the three days,” says Joshua Low, IFSEC SA event director at exhibition organiser UBM Montgomery.

All subject matter is strongly aligned with topical issues surrounding legislation, skills development, law enforcement, technology and innovation, competitive intelligence, standards and trends. On 13 May in the first session, trade lawyer JB Cronjé of the Trade Law Centre (Tralac) will present a paper on the Private Security Industry Regulation Amendment Bill. He will focus on the controversial section in the Bill stating that all private security companies should have 51% ownership. For visitors wishing to find out how this will affect investment in South Africa, this is a talk not to be missed.

Marius Coetzee, managing director of Ideco Biometric Solutions, will present a paper on the magic of biometrics at 11:15 on Thursday 15 May. Coetzee started his career at Telkom where he was responsible for the introduction of ISDN in South Africa. During this period he chaired various national and international organisations responsible for the successful implementation of global ISDN.

After his Telkom career, he was involved in the credit bureau industry and established the National Centre for Certified Identities as an industry resource against identity theft and trade fraud. After enabling this database with biometrics, he joined Ideco to focus on biometric identity management solutions.

Craig van Rensburg is presenting the paper ‘Installation security standards’ at 12:15 on 13 May. He started working in the security industry at the age of 16 and has been active in the industry for the past 19 years. Craig started his career as a learner technician installing alarms in a small family business, which today employs 62 staff and has 22 service vehicles. At the age of 28 Van Rensburg became the chairman of SAIDSA and was responsible for the Cape Province segment. He currently serves as a part of the National Executive committee board of SAIDSA in Johannesburg. His paper will discuss the guidelines for installers to adhere to specific security industry standards.

“IFSEC SA 2014 presents visitors with the perfect opportunity to listen to and interact with industry specialists in the fire and security arena. The seminar programme provides a well-rounded discourse on current industry issues and trends and is a must-visit for any fire and security professional who is serious about reducing risk for their organisation,” Low concludes.

A full seminar timetable will be available on the IFSEC SA website prior to the exhibition. Don’t miss out on the IFSEC SA 2014 exhibition and seminar – register online now at
