Make a plan to secure your estate

Estates and residential complexes are a common site in South Africa with new construction projects continually appearing across the country. The reason for this growth is that people in South Africa are plagued with a consistent criminal onslaught and are migrating to estates in the hopes of living in a more secure environment. And, of course, the hope is that an investment in a well run and secure estate will grow in value over time.

At the Residential Estate Security Conference 2016, to be held in Durban on the 22nd June 2016, Rob Anderson will open the event with a presentation providing an overview of what the first step in estate security is, namely, the security plan.

If you don’t have a good overview of what you want to achieve, you will never have a reliable security solution. The basis for developing a plan is to measure the risks facing the estate, develop risk mitigation strategies and then only develop a plan to implement technology and manpower. Moreover, Anderson believes intelligence is a critical, yet often ignored aspect of a security plan.

The presentation will cover the need for the plan as well as the basics of how to design one, before highlighting the various areas planners need to include in their overall strategy.

One of these areas is defending the perimeter. Following Anderson, Dan Edwards from Betafence will focus on the perimeter and show that a fence has more to it than a few wires. Edwards will discuss how fences have changed over time and how the fence is only a part in the overall security defence of an estate.

He will discuss aesthetics, the types of fences available and their relative strengths, as well as innovations in the perimeter market. He will also include some tips buyers should be aware of when considering their perimeter options.

Following a sold-out event in Johannesburg in 2015 this full day conference on residential estate security will be held in Durban on 22 June 2016, at the Durban Country Club from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. The cost to attend is R1200, which includes lunch, refreshments throughout the day as well as ample networking opportunities.
