Multimodal authentication biometric terminal

March 2015 Access Control & Identity Management, Integrated Solutions, Products & Solutions

ViRDI Distribution SA announced in January 2015 the release of its latest biometric terminal for high-risk, high-security applications that utilises multimodal authentication of biometric features, proximity card technologies and a numerical PIN.

Building on the success of the existing range of biometric terminal offerings from ViRDI, the AC7000 is an evolution in biometric authentication and verification as it is the first ViRDI device to be developed on the Android operating system. This allows for powerful and speedy processing, large memory capacity, an Android touch screen GUI for ease of use and a seamless incorporation of multiple and varied biometric technologies into one device.

The AC7000 features a custom-developed facial recognition algorithm built on the latest neurotechnology SDK using 3D metric geometry and isometries to ensure fast and secure identification and authentication of facial features while limiting the FAR/FRR to the same levels that has become customary of ViRDI fingerprint biometric terminals.

The embedded fingerprint authentication module incorporates ViRDI’s standard fingerprint offering with live and fake fingerprint detection, multispectral response imaging, scratch resistant platen and patented fingerprint authentication algorithm that is still rated as the most effective and fastest algorithm by the Fingerprint Verification Competition Ongoing as hosted by BioLab. Unlike previous ViRDI biometric terminals the AC7000 features a PIV rated platen area of 21,3 mm x 21,3 mm, which allows for ease of use by terminal users when the system is in operation.

Developing on Android allowed the incorporation of a quad core CPU which makes multimodal biometric authentication possible. The system can be configured to authenticate on face, fingerprint, proximity card (either standard 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz), numeric PIN or combinations of the previously mentioned. It also allows for fast authentication with a 1:1000 (1:N) facial scan and a 1:10 000 (1:N) fingerprint scan in less than 1 second.

The AC7000 features all the standard communication portals that has become customary from ViRDI biometric terminals – digital inputs and outputs, Wiegand input and output, RS-232 for meal management, ViRDI’s Secure RS-485 transmission protocol for use with the BLC-015 single-door controller or the MCP-040 4-door controller, 10/100 network port, as well as an SD card slot for memory expansion and upload and download of logs, users and firmware.

Other features of the AC7000 include:

250 000 RFID users, 60 000 fingerprint users (1:N), 3000 face users (1:N), 20 000 photo log, 2 000 000 event log, 1024 access schedules (groups, areas, times and time zones), dual rotating cameras (colour digital and monochrome infrared) with IR illuminator array, 5-inch touch TFT LCD display and on-board T&A and meal management schedules.
