November 2014 Integrated Solutions

With over a century in the fencing industry and 40 years in the security industry, Fang Fences & Guards is perfectly positioned to offer clients a customised solution based on extensive experience and resources.

This solutions-oriented, customer-centric company has embraced technology and instituted a comprehensive training programme for its employees to ensure that clients receive best practice offerings across the board.

Marketing director Fredo Scribante explains that the company’s credo is security with integrity, a philosophy that has earned Fang a loyal and extensive client base that includes the industrial, agricultural and retail sectors as well as a number of large- and small-scale lifestyle and business estates.

Offering clients a complete security turnkey service, the company provides the whole spectrum of security infrastructure incorporating perimeter security, CCTV surveillance, access control and offsite monitoring. The project begins with site visits followed by design, supply and installation of technology and a tailored gold or platinum maintenance contract. Fang’s dedicated maintenance and callout crews are supported by a call centre and after-hours service.

In addition to outright purchase, clients can opt for the company’s rental option. With 20 years of experience in this field, Fang has refined the rental process to provide clients with a cost effective alternative that eliminates the costs involved with ownership and allows companies to constantly update technology. Astrosec forms another arm of the company’s offerings and provides clients with risk analysis and management of CCTV and access control systems, using a remote monitoring facility.

Based in Cape Town, with a staff of 100, the company has a strong construction background which stands it in good stead to undertake contracts that require the civil/construction expertise necessary for the installation of fencing. These teams are complemented by the well-equipped electronic personnel who design and install the access control, CCTV and network components of the project. A new element in the company’s offerings is fire detection and monitoring.

Registered with PSIRA, and a member of the Master Builders Association (MBA), SAIDSA (South African Intruder Detection Services Association) and the South African Electric Fence Installers Association (SAEFIA), Fang subscribes to the philosophy of providing its clients with top-quality installations that are customised to specific project needs.

Not only does the company align itself with a number of reputed suppliers and manufacturers of pertinent security systems, but it has also developed its own intelligent and interactive monitoring system. CSMS (centralised security management system) makes use of telemetry, WiFi or fibre optic cable as a communication medium between field stations and a centralised control room. The control display can be a standard LED screen with keyboard or touch screen, both supported by voice annunciation.

CSMS is a high-tech system with a low-tech interface designed primarily for the demanding conditions of the South African and African environments. Full control of all alarms is integrated with the system, with constant checks on whether sensors are active, failing which it will deploy secondary alarms. In a display of the trust and respect exhibited by Gallagher as their longest standing installer, Gallagher has incorporated this monitoring system into selected products.

Scribante points out that clients are provided with full on- and offsite training in the optimised use of both the CSMS as well as other third-party systems included in the installation. Training in fact plays a critical role at Fang, with regular visits from supplier training personnel providing the Fang team with up to date technology transfer on new products and trends. In addition tertiary training is encouraged and supported by the management of Fang and a number of employees have furthered their technical education whilst in the company’s employ.
