All-in-one fleet management

November 2013 Asset Management, Integrated Solutions, Transport (Industry), Products & Solutions

Two factors play a large role in the profitability of company fleets: theft of vehicles with or without cargo; and misuse/abuse of vehicles. Hi-Tech Security Solutions looked at a system that offers a complete fleet management solution from Management and Supply of Security Solutions (MASS).

VidiWave offers live video streaming, live GPS tracking, bi-directional audio, an accelerometer, an engine management system, Google Earth streaming, driver training, integration of fleet management software through CANbus and an off-site control room. MASS are sole agents for this full rail-compliant system in Africa.

According to company director John Loftus, the system is proving to be a best seller for MASS. “We have seen great adoption of VidiWave not only in commercial fleets, but also in rail and bus companies. Its popularity can be attributed to the functionality and versatility of the system, coupled with its adherence to the highest quality standards. Evidence of the latter is apparent in VidiWave’s compliance with all possible EU certification requirements.

Loftus cites a large project like Transnet Freight Rail as an example of the system’s success. “Transnet Freight Rail has entrusted us with the supply of VidiWave to manage their locomotives. We are tracking loco speeds, location, adherence to rail signals (red, green and amber light signals), scheduling back-up, and post-event analysis. Therefore, after an incident of any nature, we have the recorded video, audio and other meta-data,” said Loftus.

Bombardier, the world’s largest locomotive producer in the world, with extremely stringent quality standards and requirements, has given VidiWave its stamp of approval and VidiWave is now an approved technology partner to Bombardier.

According to Loftus, the Rail DVR is IP65 rated for use in harsh conditions, making it ideally suited for environments where vibration and rough handling are common. “In addition, it can be fully submersed in water as there is absolutely zero airflow through the system, and it operates in temperatures of up to 100°C. Similarly, the Bus DVR is shock and vibration proof and retains every frame of footage even in horrific accidents.”
