Securex South Africa 2024, co-located with A-OSH EXPO, Facilities Management Expo, and Firexpo 2024 from 11 to 13 June at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, retained its reputation of attracting key decision makers intent on finding customised security solutions.

Mark Anderson, Portfolio Director at Specialised Exhibition (a division of Montgomery Group)

“We welcomed a combined total of 10 115 visitors to the four co-located shows. Feedback from the exhibitors and visitors alike was very positive, demonstrating that Securex has the unrivalled ability to provide affordable and high-quality security solutions all under one roof,” says Mark Anderson, Portfolio Director at Specialised Exhibitions (a division of Montgomery Group).

“Our long-standing participation at Securex South Africa underscores our commitment to engaging with the security industry and staying at the forefront of security innovation. Securex forms a crucial part of our marketing plan as it is the premier event for security technology and services in South Africa. The expo provides us with an unparalleled opportunity to showcase our cutting-edge Fog Bandit system to a targeted audience of industry professionals, decision-makers, and potential clients. It also allows us to stay updated on the latest industry trends and innovations, ensuring we remain a leader in the security field,” says exhibitor Peter-John Smith from Fog Bandit.

Visitors to Securex South Africa enjoyed the 16 seminar sessions in the free-to-attend Securex Seminar Theatre, in partnership with SMART Security Solutions and powered by UNISA. “The ability of the expo to attract visitors intent on updating themselves on the latest trends and regulations in the industry is expanded through the seminar sessions presented by knowledgeable and experienced security specialists,” says Anderson.

Other visitor attractions included the New Products Display, situated on the walkway to the entrance of Hall 2; the K9 Demos; the Drone Display area; and the SAIDSA Techman Competition, where regional finalists pitted their skills against one another in the battle to wire up an alarm circuit board in the fastest time and with the highest level of accuracy, according to pre-determined specifications. The award winners this year were presented with their certificates in the Securex Seminar Theatre on 12 June. They were:

• 1st place — Desigan Govendar from Marshall Security.

• 2nd place — Anesh Ramydal from Blue Security.

• 3rd place — Jaco Griesel from Bloemsec Armed Response & Guarding.

In addition, the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) took place in the Securex Seminar Theatre on 11 June. These awards recognise and reward companies, people, and innovation across the security sector. An exciting new development for this year is that southern African winners from all categories (except Lifetime Achievement) will be featured in the first Global OSPAs, which will take place in 2025. Winners will automatically qualify for the global competition. The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be inducted into the newly launched Security Hall of Fame.

• Outstanding Security Team — Points of Presence Security Team — First National Bank South Africa.

• Outstanding Security Training Initiative — TAPA’s Online Training Initiative.

• Outstanding Security Installer/Integrator — ATG Digital.

• Outstanding New Security Product — NoKey – Secutel Technologies. Secutel Technologies was honoured with the Outstanding Security Performance Award in two categories in 2021 and achieved finalist nominations for the region in the 2023 OSPAs.

New technology launched at Securex South Africa

Many of the 162 exhibitors took the opportunity to showcase new technology to the market, including the RMS from MXTech, a South African electronics design house and solutions company based in Strijdompark, Gauteng.

The RMS system, designed for the CCTV segment, provides reliable, uninterrupted power to cameras and supporting equipment. It includes a management platform for monitoring metrics such as battery voltage and solar power production. The system can communicate with network machines, allowing remote rebooting, which reduces maintenance costs.

The platform offers control rooms and stakeholders insights into network performance, providing a global view across vast areas. This capability minimises downtime and ensures qualified resource deployment.

The thousands of solutions on display at Securex South Africa resounded with an audience eager to implement higher levels of risk mitigation. Visitors responded eagerly to the vast and targeted array of products and services available.

“We have companies in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. I came to find tracking devices and home security solutions, and I found what I was looking for. You need to keep updated on current technology, and Securex South Africa lets you do this with ease,” says Tazvida Gaza from Fanset International.

“I’ve attended the last 15 Securex South Africa expos and was particularly interested in protection alarms. I also connected with a suitable supplier. I enjoy staying abreast of current technology — I believe this is critical,” says Martiné Jooste of Combined Private Investigators.

Organisations wishing to exhibit at Securex South Africa 2025 can contact the Securex South Africa team on zelda.jordaan@montgomerygroup.com or johan.vanheerden@montgomerygroup.com to book a space or capitalise on a sponsorship opportunity.
