Facilities Management Seminar Theatre

Issue 4 2023 News & Events

Held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 6 to 8 June 2023, Facilities Management Expo provides visitors with the opportunity to source best practice facilities management products and services. Furthermore, the free-to-attend Facilities Management Seminar Theatre, powered by Broll, delivers information on the latest market trends, thereby keeping attendees up to date on solutions and technology centred on increasing facility system optimisation.

The seminar will be opened by Batabile Sibaca, Broll Integrated Facilities Management (IFM), COO, and is broken down into specific themes. The morning session on 6 June is entitled: ‘Energy management, smart buildings, improving building systems and services’. The sessions kick off at 10:45 with ‘The ‘Green Premium: How FM are adapting to the green movement’. This is followed by ‘Three years on since hard lockdown: An improved resilience in the FM sector’ by Riaan du Plessis, Broll IFM, Divisional Executive.

The afternoon session continues with the theme ‘Smart building technology for optimal property management’. The field of technology is continuously advancing, driving development in the world of facility management. Besides buildings getting smarter year on year, the pressure to invest in sustainability is rising due to new legislation, and building users are demanding a workplace that satisfies new types of needs. This session takes the form of a panel discussion on ‘Future-proofing real estate: innovating property management, design & build, CRES, and technology’.

The morning session on 7 June is entitled ‘Better buildings, building automation, IoT, integrated facilities management’, with a paper presented by Stuart Mathieson, BrollTech Managing Director, on ‘PropTech setting the pace of smarter, hyper-integrated facilities’. It is followed by a paper by Megan Hodgson (Lasec) entitled ‘The potential dangers around working with, and storing lithium-ion batteries, with a battery cabinet as a solution’.

The afternoon sessions, themed ‘Asset management — solutions’, start with ‘Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) — Going the distance: Smarter fire safety solutions for short and long-range assets’ by Andreas Matthee, founder and Chief Executive Officer of TECH4IR and Richard Kluth, who has been involved in distributed fibre optic sensing for 27 years. The second session, presented by Joel Kesler and Warren Bruckmann, Directors of DriWay, discusses ‘Unhealthy buildings – The effects of water related issues, mould and poor indoor air quality in buildings’.

On 8 June, the morning session theme is ‘Facilities management best practices’ and begins with ‘Navigating the future: Trends and innovations in cleaning and ESG for the facility management and commercial cleaning industries’ by Brian Lewis, Broll Specialised Services, Managing Director.

The Broll Vantage (Supplier Development Programme) Awards 2023, co-presented by: Malcolm Horne, Group CEO, Broll Property Group, and Batabile Sibaca, Broll IFM, COO, will take place at 11:30. The awards are dedicated to businesses that participated in the programme and have shown significant growth and service excellence.

The seminar ends with a presentation on how the sector must shift their focus from solely cost savings to value creation for their clients. It will cover strategies for identifying areas of improvement, implementing new technologies, and fostering a culture of innovation that drives long-term value for clients.

Live demonstrations of products, one-on-one solution-finding sessions with exhibitors, and the opportunity to interact with peers, make a visit to the Facilities Management Expo imperative. Exhibitors include Broll Integrated Facilities Management, Core Vision EMEA, Vetria, Afroteq Advisory, Quatro Integrated Services, Red Pole Circle, Fibre Energy, React Group, and Eureka Safety South Africa.
