Understanding customers better using AI

Issue 8 2022 Retail (Industry), Surveillance, Products & Solutions

Data analytics is essential for any industry that would like to develop a competitive and successful business. This remains true for retail businesses that constantly have to deal with increasing competition and pressure. With in-store analytics of consumer behaviour, retailers can improve store performance and boost the productivity of their business.

Secutel Technologies has partnered with a client in the retail industry and the results of the partnership have proven that its products add value in a retail environment by leveraging existing security systems to provide the retail environment with added business intelligence insights.

SecuVue is a universal facial recognition technology that brings a number of facial recognition features into a ready-to-deploy solution. By leveraging Secutel’s facial recognition algorithm, SecuVue shortens the time to market for AI surveillance solutions. Actions remain recognisable and unnecessary intrusion into personal privacy is prevented without compromising security.

The SecuVue solution also offers a people-counting feature which works by automatically counting a person as soon as they have passed a virtually definable region or line within a store. The counting is performed directionally (two directions per line). Counting lines can be formed and oriented individually, thus enabling not only counting in passages, but also for regions.

Age, gender and emotions – and automatic recognition and analysis of facial expressions that can help retail stores to detect changes in client emotions in different environments – is also possible. Linked to age estimation and gender detection, this can further assist with understanding the audience that is visiting the store.
