Remote monitoring for reduced costs and increased security

Issue 1 2022 Surveillance

Customers’ security expectations are evolving. They want cost-effective, real-time solutions that allow them to monitor and track the status of their properties and to receive immediate notice of any security issues that arise. In addition, the current global health crisis has resulted in the government calling on private security services to assist the police and military, while at the same time maintaining high levels of service in their day-to-day jobs.

Thorburn’s wide range of products and services transform traditional security services into intelligence-driven operations that add value to its customers. It offers a variety of security solutions, including physical solutions, a remote monitoring centre and integrated solutions, estate living and commercial density solutions, smart building solutions, fire and servicing solutions and specialised services.

Remote monitoring solutions

Thorburn’s Remote Monitoring Solutions allow customers to link existing (or newly installed) CCTV to the company’s National Control and Command Centre (NCC) for 24/7/365 surveillance and real-time armed response to alerts at a fraction of the cost of manned guarding. By making use of a centralised monitoring and response management, Thorburn can optimise reactions to incidents and risks.

Some customer offerings for specific remote solutions, whether full or part time, include:

• Stand-alone unit with CCTV cameras and solar solution (can operate with or without a guard). The micro-control trailer allows sites to have on-site control with CCTV cameras and full remote operation. The unit includes, as a minimum, surveillance cameras, solar panels and battery backup, 4G remote dial-in communication from the supervisory staff and National Command and Control Centre, a GPS tracking and location module, external lights and an internal screen to conduct on-site monitoring.

• Safe zones are autonomous systems that allow full bi-directional communication capabilities with CCTV observation of surrounding areas. The objective is to provide a space where individuals can go to if they feel threatened. They then have immediate contact with a central control room with bi-directional communication and observation capacity via CCTV cameras.

• Basic AI solution to replace guards at specific posts and allow remote access management, human detection, vehicle detection, unauthorised movement in areas, switching on and off lights remotely, communication to site over PA system and various other features.

• Alarm image verification for remote guard posts, thereby allowing potential reduction of guards and savings to the client. This service offers instantaneous video capture when the motion viewer sensor is tripped, a 10-second video clip of the event is captured and sent through cell or IP network to a central monitoring station. The wireless, passive infra-red sensor (PIR) works with a digital video camera to record images. Verification of the event is key – and so is swift, rapid video transfer to the central station for review and dispatch. The video clip can also be configured for a lower-resolution, smaller file.

The Thorburn Remote Monitoring Solutions provide efficient monitoring and security without the need for on-site guards. It reduces the risk to human life in volatile areas, saving costs while still increasing security outputs. There is no need for large capital outlays as these solutions can be included in clients’ monthly operational expenses. There are also options to own technology after a fixed term.
