Smart entrance control technologies

Issue 3 2021 Access Control & Identity Management

An important part of physical security systems, entrance control technologies – from parking access solutions to facial and mask recognition – have gained even greater prominence on the security agenda in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smart Integration, an Ulwembu Business Services organisation, provides a fully integrated entrance control solution, which is touch-free from start to finish and allows for the controlled management of people throughout a business’s property, starting with parking.

Entrance into a company’s designated parking area can be proactively managed through a combination of licence plate recognition and a touchless boom control. And the move to contactless access doesn’t end here: an advanced access control solution issues visitors with an individualised QR code prior to their appointment, which may be printed or downloaded and scanned for positive entry to the site. A visitor access card is automatically printed on scanning, which is valid only for the particular date and time the individual is on-site. This minimises visitor contact for security and reception staff and allows for fewer touch points within the building.

Another important facet of entrance control is facial recognition, which now incorporates mask alerts for tighter access control. This assists organisations to manage staff and visitors, denying access to those not wearing the face masks that are still currently mandatory in public places.

An additional benefit to the improved site and people management is the close link to fire protection. By being fully aware of the number of people on a property at any time, as well as knowing where they were last, evacuation in the case of fire is greatly simplified.
