Blick SA provides integrated solution for automotive giant

September 2002 Integrated Solutions

Ford Motor Company of southern Africa (FMCSA) has been a client of Blick SA since the early '90s. FMCSA employs a system that has expanded and upgraded rather impressively since the initial installation and which comprises an integrated combination of access control and time management solutions.

The system currently manages approximately 5000 employees on a daily basis and pays the weekly wages of all wage staff. The access control manages the flow and security of the 5000 employees daily on a general perimeter access control level as well as on an internal zone control. As a result, the staff and visitors are channelled into the relevant zones, thereby minimising internal security risks and ensuring people are kept away from hazardous areas as far as possible.

FMCSA has identified many a valuable additional module to the current software package being used, Time Genius. These additional modules not only add value to the company, but have also been beneficial for other Blick SA clients once implemented on their sites. The use of these additional modules has simplified the internal systems at FMCSA to such an extent that several old software packages have now been made redundant.

BlueLine system

The access control element of the BlueLine system on site controls not only the movement of the pedestrian activity, but also a vehicle's movements. Currently the system consists of approximately 150 BlueLine readers spread across the Pretoria plant. These readers restrict the movement and channel the relevant employees into the correct areas.

The relationship between FMCSA and Blick SA has grown to include the engine production plant in Port Elizabeth on an identical BlueLine system. This system controls both full site access control and time management. This system will include approximately 20 BlueLine readers once commissioned.

The FMCSA premises in Pretoria are of such a quality that the site is regularly used as a reference site for potential clients. What is of particular interest is the effectiveness with which the access control and time management systems integrate. The Pretoria system replacement value is currently in excess of R2 million and Port Elizabeth is approximately R500 000.
