Mintek opts for convenient entry

1 October 2014 Access Control & Identity Management

A Besam revolving door solution from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems was recently supplied to Mintek, a specialist provider of minerals processing and metallurgical engineering products and services to industries across the globe.

Not satisfied with the existing sliding door system at its Randburg-based office due to the fact that it was not pedestrian friendly, Mintek approached Pedestrian Door Solutions (PDS) specialists, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, to find the right solution.

“Following a site inspection, I suggested to the customer that a revolving door system would present a perfect solution,” comments ASSA ABLOY’s Geraldine van Aswegen. The complete product solution included a revolving door frame Besam KDB-4-27 four wing, including all safety features as well as a paraplegic entrance.

The order was received at the end of May 2013, but Van Aswegen explains that installation was delayed by site renovations. “We remain committed to maintaining our proud reputation for on-time supply, and although we were only able to complete the installation in February 2014, it is important to note that we completed it to our customer’s programme.” The Besam revolving door for Mintek was installed with a standard automated door specification with emergency opening via the battery and fire alarm system for easy evacuation.

In addition to customer benefits such as convenience, safety and cost savings, Van Aswegen also draws attention to the fact that the doors are most considerate to the environment. “They have been specially designed and engineered to prevent the air-conditioned atmosphere from escaping and to stop draughts.” A controlled climate not only contributes to staff and customer comfort, but also reduces energy consumption as the air-conditioning system operates at its most efficient level, drawing minimum electricity.”

Nicky Nel, mechanical project leader at Mintek reports, “We have certainly seen a reduction in electricity because there is only one door turning instead of sliding four doors as was the case in the previous system. In addition, the access is now more convenient and safe with all the safety features installed. The side door is also convenient for people in wheelchairs and provides access in the event of a power failure.” Nel commends ASSA ABLOY for a quality product and excellent service with the installation of this product and concludes, “It lends class to our reception entrance.”
