Cost effective access control system for residential estate

Access & Identity Management Handbook 2014 Access Control & Identity Management

When the upmarket Chancliff Vista cluster home residential estate in Krugersdorp encountered problems with its existing access control system it approached SPB Electronics for help. As official installers of the Comb Communications range of intercom systems, SPB Electronics is focused on providing its customers with cost effective systems that do not compromise on quality.

“SPB Electronics specialises in providing a turnkey security solution for townhouse and cluster home complexes. We have been involved in a number of installations around Gauteng and can leverage our experience on a number of diverse projects to provide customers with the best fit for their needs,” said SPB Electronics member, Sakkie Botha.

“A strong relationship with our suppliers is critical in order for us to be able to ascertain the product most suited to the customer’s application. We have been associated with Comb Communications for a number of years and use their products on a regular basis. As Comb’s product technology is upgraded, we are provided with full training to ensure that this technology transfer is in place to the benefit of our customers. We therefore had no hesitation in recommending Comb’s MKII with the Tap-Tap keypad as an add-on for the Chancliff Vista installation,” he added.

SPB Electronics conducted a complete analysis of the existing security system at Chancliff Vista and provided the customer with a number of recommendations. The customer requested a high-security solution that would remain online, but that would not break its strict budget. The first priority was to replace the current intercom system and reprogram all the remote controls for the residents.

“Nothing could be simpler than the Tap-Ex feature A visitor types in the unit number of the unit he is visiting he is then allowed access by the resident. The resident immediately receives a SMS with a five-digit pin that he can forward to his resident to use as a once-off exit code The MKII system also allows the user to set up specific time zones that the visitor is allowed to be on the premises,” said Botha.

“The system from Comb Communications allows the security staff and residents at the complex to see who has provided access to visitors in a complete report that includes duration, times and the unit number. The customer was extremely impressed with the high-end functionality of the MKII system with Tap-Tap. He was further very pleased with how cost effective the two units were and the fact that the installation was undertaken in less than a day. We received the order to install the units at the entrance and exit points to the complex in late August and the installation was completed on 2 September,” Botha concluded.
