Simplex and Johnson Controls announce alliance

March/April 2000 News & Events

Simplex, a leading provider of advanced fire detection and alarm systems, and Johnson Controls, a leading worldwide supplier of building control systems, are bringing their complementary capabilities together in a new customer-focused alliance. The two companies will now work collaboratively to serve the needs of customers who want their fire alarm system delivered as part of a total building systems' solution.

The alliance, being jointly announced recently by Simplex and Johnson Controls, responds to the desire on the part of a number of customers for 'one-stop shopping' solutions , total systems' packages where the building controls supplier also offers the fire alarm system.

Johnson Controls will now respond to requests for packaged building controls/fire system solutions by teaming with Simplex. In those cases, Simplex will execute the design, manufacture and delivery of a building's fire detection and alarm system.

For Simplex, the alliance represents a strategic approach to meeting customer requirements ' one that complements the company's traditional standalone fire alarm system business model.

'With this alliance, we bring together the resources, technologies and competencies of the two recognized leaders in their respective industries, with the overriding goal of serving customers as they want to be served,' says Stanley L. Clark, Chief Executive Officer at Simplex. 'This is a mutually beneficial alliance between two customer-focused companies that share similar values and philosophies. It furthers our ability to fulfill the Simplex mission: delivering solutions and services that provide the best value and meet the needs and expectations of our customers. It is part of our continuous effort to be responsive to customers.'

Brian Stark, President of the Controls business at Johnson Controls, says: 'This landmark agreement presents wonderful opportunities for our customers while helping both companies. Simplex systems are rich with features that fit very well with what we do , improve the quality of indoor building environments by maximising comfort, productivity, safety and energy efficiency. Johnson Controls and Simplex engineers will team to bring specific applications that offer value to the customer. It is yet another way that Johnson Controls uses innovation to provide the very best solutions.'

Under the agreement, Simplex and Johnson Controls will also work together to maintain technology leadership 'staying at the forefront of breakthroughs that improve communications, compatibility, information sharing, application flexibility, and ease of use in modern building management systems.
