The calibration-free Combustible Gas & VOC Sensor by Technoswitch can be configured to detect various flammable gases, including electrolyte vapours (VOC), hydrogen, and is an indispensable tool for ensuring the safety of Li-ion battery storage systems.
The sensor is housed in an industrial-grade steel enclosure, providing reliable and affordable protection for battery rooms, energy storage systems, BESS, and other applications. When used in conjunction with an aspirating smoke detector, active sampling of the protected area is possible.
Why monitor VOCs?
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are key indicators of potential problems in Li-ion batteries. They are emitted during critical situations, such as electrolyte leaks and overcharging. The early detection of VOCs can help prevent thermal runaway by allowing timely intervention, such as shutting down the affected battery units.
The role of hydrogen gas
Hydrogen is another critical gas in the context of Li-ion batteries, particularly in systems with liquid cooling. It is typically produced during electrolysis, a chemical reaction that can occur in these batteries. Monitoring hydrogen levels is essential for preventing hazardous conditions.
