Access & Identity Management Handbook 2005 News & Events

For over 21 years Softcon has provided intelligent, diverse and reliable building management solutions, with the main focus on access control, input/output monitoring, ID card solutions and vending control and with the release of Softwin3 software included are solutions for visitor control, asset management, cashless point of sale at canteens (POS) and parking point of sale (PPOS).

Being a locally based company, Softcon is keeping on par with the market trends and the constantly growing need for integrated solutions. Some of the recent developments include software-level integration with the following companies:

* Biometric Verification - Sagem (MorphoAccess).

* CCTV - Reditron (Rediview), Thales.

* Time and Attendance - Access2000, SAP, TurboTime and other.

* Ultra Long Range Active RFID - Wavetrend Technologies.

The wide range of solutions that Softcon offers combines primarily microprocessor-based hardware products with MS Windows-compliant software.

The software packages are highly configurable, event-driven applications with 'open' database structures, which facilitate the use of databases at any location, via ODBC's using SQL. Some crucial features include alarm notification via SMS and e-mail; audit trail; remote database synchronisation; user-defined graphical interface; and a variety of flexible reports.

Softcon controllers are intelligent units, capable of functioning in an on-line or off-line mode and storing up to 65 000 sequential or 15 000 random card numbers, with up to 2900 transactions buffer off-line. The CR355 is a 2-reader controller with 16 supervised inputs, as well as 10 outputs and comes complete with power supply and battery backup unit and has the ability to interface to smartcard, biometric, proximity, magnetic stripe, infrared, bar code and other readers.

Approximately 30 000 Softcon controllers - some standalone and some as a part of on-line systems - are currently providing control at people's fingertips in 29 countries. These numbers prove that Softcon has a trusted and reliable name in the access control industry.
