Remotely manage multiple sites from one platform

Issue 5 2023 Access Control & Identity Management

Remote management is no longer an afterthought when designing a new security system. It has become a more commonly discussed requirement as more organisations have branches and offices spread out in various geographic locations. Even more convenient is the ability to manage multiple sites remotely from a single platform. End users look for remote and multi-site management functionality in access control systems to maximise efficiency and help lower administrative costs.

The global security technology manufacturer, Paxton, offers access control solutions that are simple to use and allow simplified remote management of multiple sites from almost any location.

Paxton10 is an online access control and video surveillance solution. With the software being browser based, it allows facility managers to access the system from any device with an internet connection, scalable up to 1000 doors, 1000 cameras and 50 000 users. Useful features like generating roll call and muster reports, customising access permissions can easily be done remotely as well.

Steve Woodbridge, Global Training Manager at Paxton, says, “The ability to remotely administrate a site or sites is not only convenient, but also makes management efficient. This can potentially reduce the need to physically travel to sites which can save time and money. For example, users can remotely open doors, add, delete and edit users, and view reports, enabling simple and flexible site management.”

Licence-free multi-site feature

Woodbridge explains, “Paxton10’s Multi-site functionality allows administrators to manage 100 sites on one server, regardless of geographical distance. It helps save cost from installing one system at each site. This is especially useful in settings such as multi-tenant offices or residential buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, and more.”

Energy prices and availability are a concern of many businesses and organisations, the system’s design offers features that can efficiently manage building activity and help limit energy wastage.

“Triggers and Actions are a series of rules that enable site activities and help control users’ accessibility,” adds Woodbridge. “For instance, facility managers can set ‘when the intruder alarm is armed’ as an event, so that when the system receives a signal that the event has happened, it will then trigger the action, which can be set as ‘switch off the lights’.

“Paxton10 allows site managers to set up constraints too. These constraints ensure that a condition is true before an action takes place. For example, if the rule is set to automatically turn on the air conditioning when a person enters the office, the constraint may be in place to ensure windows are closed before doing so.”
