Alert, verify and record

SMART Mining Security Solutions 2023 Access Control & Identity Management

EMS has released three solutions to market that allow users to ensure their emergency evacuation system operates when required, irrespective of the power situation; another that assists in verifying people through biometrics; and readers that link drivers and their loads as they leave the premises.

KNTech GSM intercoms

Even with a digital intercom on site, health and safety regulations require that an independent evacuation system provide guaranteed fallback in the event of the main system failure due to power or IP switch failure.

EMS provides a KNTech GSM intercom with backup lithium-ion battery, siren and visual indication in the event of an evacuation signal. When the system receives an alarm, it is automatically passed to the control room. All GSM Intercoms are alerted with an automatic pre-recorded message. The light also illuminates, providing visual alert.

NordicID antenna readers

Biometric access is undoubtedly the best authentication method, but often the management of the database across huge mine areas with off-network locations presents logistical problems that are difficult to overcome.

The NordicID antenna reader with on-board ACS intelligence, when connected to MorphoWave readers, reads and passes a user’s template for one-to-one verification.

Each miner has a MorphoWave template captured into a passive RFID tag, attached to, either the lamp pack, or their helmet. When approaching the access point area, the RFID tag is read by the NordicID antenna, decoded, and passed to the reader via its network port, and then into the reference side of the device. The user passes their hand across the scan area where verification is performed, either allowing or rejecting the user’s access.

Spectre Nano readers

It is difficult to ensure that expensive goods leaving site are manually checked correctly. Number plate recognition cannot guarantee an unduplicated number plate, and collusion cannot be ignored; a single, repeatable access control solution is required.

EMS provided the STid Spectre Nano readers that read tractor and trailer, driver and security authorisation to exit site, as a single access control transaction. STid has Bluetooth and NFC enable readers that connect to a mobile credential up to 12 metres away. The Spectre reader can also read UHF RFID tags up to 8 metres away.

Tags are secured to the trailer and tractor units so that, on exit; they are connected together in the database. The driver uses mobile credentials to register their exit from site. The site guard uses a mobile credential to authenticate the repeatable event. All tags and credentials are captured in Saflec ACS and a transaction report is emailed to the control centre.
