GSM intercoms for mobile visitor management

Issue 7 2022 Access Control & Identity Management, Products & Solutions

All South Africans want to feel safe, and we all want a measure of control over our safety. Controlling who has access to your property is vital, however, who gave that access is also important, if not more so.

An access control and intercom system are traditionally mounted at the entrance to a property. One controls access and the other communications. What if there were a smart device that ergonomically and stylishly integrates both functions simply?

BAS-IP has done exactly this, creating an IP intercom system with integrated, managed access control. BAS-IP produces a wide range of IP intercom equipment, from individual systems to complex solutions, thereby meeting the requirements of the modern user. The company keeps track of all market trends, introducing innovative technology and producing stylish and functional devices that will suit all segments of the market.

Plug-and-play is a reality with BAS-IP smart devices. Installation is a breeze: click, cut and connect. Once on the network (which is usually a two-step process) the smart devices can be located with the company’s Remote Upgrade Tool (RUT), updated, programmed or configured quicker than the installer can push the buttons on their laptop. For a seasoned installer, this is quick and simple.

Once upon a time, GSM intercoms represented a revolution in wireless communication – no need for monitors or handsets, just a cellular phone. GSM is an installer’s dream product. It is an easy installation and a great application for older buildings, some office complexes and residential developments. What if there were a smart device that integrates everything GSM offers, plus a WhatsApp-type video call function and the ability to manage multiple entry points, putting visitor management in your hands?

BAS-IP has done this with the subscription-based Link app. Link is an application that allows you to receive video calls from BAS-IP outdoor panels and monitors directly on your mobile device. This allows you to open the door(s) during or after the call, open a lock via Bluetooth (BAS-IP UKEY for mobile devices), call an elevator and create guest passes. The Link subscription allows the primary user to invite four family members. The app is available on Android and iOS.

BAS-IP is an international technology company founded in 2005 with its head office in Edinburgh, Scotland. Since 2016, it has been included in the international KNX Association and officially develops, produces and presents KNX-certified devices to manage your smart home. BAS-IP has an open API and is open to integration with all third-party products, platforms and solutions.
