Safety first, aesthetics a close second

Issue 7 2022 Residential Estate (Industry)

Residential estates are constantly upgrading as the needs of the estate outgrow the existing infrastructure. A challenge many face is how to improve usability and safety while keeping costs down.

Acacia Estate was concerned about its existing plug boxes in the common areas of the estate. The sockets were being used to charge cellphones and plug in vacuum cleaners to clean cars. Many of the enclosures had lids missing, which left the socket exposed to prying fingers and susceptible to shorting out when it rained. The estate’s management wanted to find a socket that could be locked and stay protected from water.

Victor Pereira, responsible for operations and projects on the board of trustees, discovered Allbro’s PSO-2 Stealth range while searching for a solution. “The trustees identified operational health and safety risks which needed to be mitigated before any serious injury or liability occurred. We’ve got a lot of kids walking around the estate. As a parent I thought, well, we’d better get these locked somehow.”

The PSO-2 Stealth is an IP66-rated waterproof enclosure with a tight seal to ensure the contents remain dry in all weather conditions. The lid is padlock-able and deep enough to be closed while there is a plug inserted. This ensures that it is watertight at all times and also enables the box to be locked while in use. The PSO-2 Stealth is made from glass-reinforced polyester (not plastic), a durable material with more than 25 years’ UV life. Conceptualised, designed and manufactured in South Africa, this advanced enclosure will meet the needs of your estate for many years to come.

“The win for us here was really the assured peace of mind that it brings,” says Pereira. “The common property costs don’t go up, which keeps the board of trustees happy.” Acacia Estate switched all of its socket outlets along the main driveway to PSO-2 Stealth enclosures and is looking forward to partnering with Allbro for other projects in the future. “The PSO-2 Stealth is a win for our estate.”
