Reliable, low-maintenance video appliances

Issue 6 2022 Editor's Choice, Surveillance, News & Events, Infrastructure, Products & Solutions

Symetrix is a local hardware and software infrastructure supplier, part of the Agera Group. The company sells and supports a range of products and has now added the AES range of video recording servers, storage appliances and workstations to its portfolio.

These solutions are OEM solutions from the world’s leading suppliers, including Dell, focused on the video surveillance and analytics market. Jason McGregor from Symetrix explains that the quality products and reliable build of the systems ensures customers get a five-year warranty backed by Dell, with no costs for hardware and support, while the company has ensured that no supply chain surprises will impact lead times (averaging a five-day shipping time).

The available solution portfolio currently includes video recording servers, storage and workstations, and Alcatel-Lucent enterprise networking, industrial servers and switches.

The basic AES video recording servers (Dell products) include the following:

• The Entry-Level product includes up to 96 TB of SATA hard drives configurable for RAID 5/6, Windows 10 Pro and Intel 10th-generation processors.

• The Professional appliance includes up to 416 TB of SATA storage configurable for RAID 5/6, redundant power supplies, Windows Server 2019 and Intel Xeon processors.

• The Enterprise appliance includes up to 416 TB of SATA storage configurable for RAID 5/6, redundant power supplies, Windows Server 2019 and Intel Xeon processors.

Scale-out NAS and SAN storage appliances are also available. The SAN offers two form factors: 2U supporting up to 192 TB per chassis, and the 5U chassis supporting 1,34 PB. The NAS is available in a 4U chassis supporting up to 1,28 PB. Both SAN and NAS include redundant power supplies.

For those companies requiring video workstations, these are also catered for, with AES offering solutions with a mix of the latest Intel processors, Nvidia GPUs and SSD/NVME drives.

Milestone XProtect appliances

There is also a range of appliances specifically for Milestone Systems XProtect hosting up to 350 channels with a 10 GB NIC (12-bay system), or up to 450 channels for the 24-bay system (also with 10 GB NIC). Customers who opt for the Storage Accelerator will gain additional performance from their Milestone appliances in terms of storage scalability, performance and reliability. It features a 1,6 TB non-volatile video cache and a latency of 30 microseconds.

Furthermore, using the iDRAC plug-in for XProtect allows users to proactively monitor their servers’ performance and predict hardware failures through the Milestone platform. The plug-in allows for the monitoring of hard disk status, temperatures, fan speed and power supplies, while also keeping an eye on server performance by monitoring CPU and RAM utilisation.
