Security boost for Onrus and Vermont

Issue 1 2022 News & Events

Residents of the Onrus and Vermont Special Rating Area (SRA) can look forward to a boost for local security, with the news that a top-up security services contract has been awarded to Fidelity ADT. The one-year contract commenced on the 1st of February 2022.

Officer Thabang Mohoto.

“We are excited about being selected for this contract to provide public space security for this section of Hermanus,” says Marius Boshoff, the company’s Hermanus branch manager. “The contract is already in effect and we will expand our services with two foot patrol officers who will focus on the coastal path, green belts and other public open spaces from April onwards.”

The area has seen a number of break-ins in recent weeks and Boshoff says he hopes that this contract will make a big difference to local residents.

The service is provided by Fidelity ADT from a 24/7 monitoring centre facility provided by the municipality and is connected to 17 security cameras across Onrus and Vermont.

“Our focus for this contract is on public spaces, such as streets and parks. We work closely with neighbourhood watches in the area to offer a preventative service, while the police and armed response companies will still respond to incidents in homes and on private property as normal,” says Boshoff.

The general manager for the Onrus and Vermont SRA, Meredith Thornton, says they are pleased to be expanding this contract to include environmental patrollers. Thornton says they are looking forward to increased safety along the coastal path, as well as working closely with the patrollers to expand their individual knowledge of the natural environment.

“Fidelity ADT is familiar with the needs of the greater Hermanus area and we look forward to working even more closely with them. We urge local residents to play their part by immediately notifying us if they see anything suspicious in the streets so that the appropriate response can be deployed,” she says.

The Onrus and Vermont SRA includes the whole area of Ward 13 (Onrus River, Vermont, Chanteclair and Berghof). It covers everything from the Onrus River traffic lights in the east to the fence line west of Lynx Avenue, as well as from the mountain in the north to the high-water mark in the south.

Report any criminal activity in public spaces by calling 079 469 8606. Find more information at https://onrusvermontsra.com/
