Security trends for 2022

Issue 1 2022 Access Control & Identity Management

Covid-19 and lockdown have made companies and organisations look at things differently, regarding applications and usages of CCTV and access control. Due to concerns of touching surfaces and even each other, many companies are looking at different ways to safeguard their staff and visitors.

Through the use of IoT smart solutions, CCTV analytics and touchless technology, many companies are now in a position to regulate the access of their staff and visitors. Through touchless technology, there is a lower chance of transmission of bacteria and viruses and the devices do not need to be wiped down every few minutes.

Does this mean that we are back to tags and cards? Absolutely not. Touchless technology means that you can use or operate a device without touching it and the use of human-machine interfaces allows for camera-based gestures, proximity-enabled screens, voice recognition and eye-tracking technology.

One can now even pay for things at a supermarket by simply using your cellphone. Touchless technology is seen in everyday items such as hand-sanitisers, motion-activated taps, touchless exit buttons and more. Security trends indicate a strong shift towards the use of cellphones and mobile devices, palm-reading devices and facial recognition solutions to monitor ingress and egress of visitors and staff.

Suspicious vehicles or persons of concern can be flagged by comparing their number plates or faces to a database. Staff can pay for meals in canteens and gain access to offices by simply producing their mobile device. One can even analyse the shopping trends in retail stores using touchless technology.

At LD Africa, we supply the equipment designed for these specific solutions. Our products are internationally recognised and are applied both locally and internationally by numerous companies.
