If giant hyperscalers can fall, so can you

Issue 8 2021 Infrastructure

It wasn’t long ago that Facebook experienced a massive outage that cost the company millions of dollars. More recently, global cloud giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced issues with its cloud services, causing slow responses or failures for a significant chunk of the Internet. If this could happen to the world’s mightiest tech giants, it can certainly happen to your business, so it pays to be prepared.

To help combat the unexpected and protect the customer experience, South African companies are now able to benefit from Cisco’s Full Stack Observability solution, offered through Altron Systems Integration. The solution aims to transform previously siloed data into actionable insights that provide shared context to IT teams. As a result, companies are empowered to deliver exceptional digital experiences, optimise for cost and performance and maximise digital business revenue. Downtime is reduced because problems are identified and action taken before users are affected.

“In the next three years, 500 million apps will be written, almost all of them for the digital world. However, two-thirds of users say they would avoid a brand completely if their experience isn’t perfect, so there is little room for error. Full-stack observability (FSO) provides insights into each touchpoint that connects an application to its user. From the Internet, network and cloud to the application, there are many dependencies along an app’s journey. Businesses need to leverage deep analytics to predict and remediate issues before they become business-critical, at every touchpoint” says Conrad Steyn, chief technology officer at Cisco South Africa.

The solution is currently exclusively available via Altron Systems Integration’s Digital Operations Centre. This new approach to IT management provides a zero-touch, AI-assisted multi-cloud system. The Digital Operations Centre enables IT operations to observe, act and learn, without human intervention – so that it can predict what might go wrong and solve it before it happens.

“Altron Systems Integration supports our clients to achieve digital transformation goals. We want to move IT operations from reactive response to pre-emptive action and enable predictive remediation. Full Stack Observability is a powerful enabler, allowing companies to optimise their costs, reduce downtime and improve productivity and capacity,” said Vaughn Naidoo, chief digital and technology officer at Altron Systems Integration.

Full-Stack Observability allows DevOps, AppOps, NetOps and SecOps teams to work together and see the full stack of available data across the entire digital experience: applications, infrastructure and network. This is enabled through integrations via Cisco’s AppDynamics, Intersight Workload Optimizer and ThousandEyes.
