Accessing the data centre

Data centres have long been a core focus for iPulse due to its integrated access control and visitor management systems combined with its unique approach to moulding the solution around each data centre’s standard operating procedures.

Its data centre clients include FNB, Dimension Data (previously Internet Solutions), SEACOM, Teraco, Vodacom, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) and Disaster Recovery SA, all of whom have used its products to not only meet their access control needs, but also to manage the complex reporting structures required for compliance with the PoPI, PCI and Sarbanes-Oxley Acts.

The iPulse system starts with absolute confidence about the identity of who is accessing the data centre. In this case, the enrolment process is key. Because its system is fully integrated into the Secure Citizen infrastructure, it is able to validate South African ID numbers, photos and fingerprints directly against the Home Affairs database, while ensuring that this enrolment only ever happens once to avoid duplicates or confusion.

From there, its various kiosks and devices support fingerprint, facial and voice recognition, while at the same time ensuring everyone who enters the premises complies with whatever safety or health requirements are needed for site access. Some data centres prefer clients to complete a questionnaire online prior to visiting, or integrate their ticketing system directly into iPulse applications to ensure that only clients who have complied with their process can access the data centre.

Centralised management and reporting are also key, with dashboards showing the status of all devices as well as the statistics around peak visitor times, unplanned visits and expired individuals. Custom reports allow drilling down into access for specific individuals, companies or devices and ensure that reporting on who has access to what is as simple as the press of a button.
