Speeding into the office

Issue 8 2020 Access Control & Identity Management

The Firs commercial property is situated in the heart of Rosebank – Johannesburg’s second largest business centre – surrounded by new commercial, residential and retail property developments. Rosebank is a multi-cultural, trendy suburb, business centre and tourist attraction and attracts thousands of people on weekends and public holidays.

The A-grade office building contains spacious, upmarket offices and is close to the Gautrain station and the M1 highway. Employees of companies within The Firs enjoy all the amenities of the surrounding environment and are guaranteed a safe working environment with the addition of two Speedgate Kinetic lanes from Turnstar.

The sleek, modern appearance of the Speedgate Kinetic complements the sophisticated environment at The Firs offices and the adoption of the 900 mm wide-lane format allows easy special-needs access for wheelchairs. “The Speedgate Kinetic is not only attractive but also highly functional and ultra-high-speed access for the hundreds of office employees and visitors is ensured with the incorporation of seamlessly integrated motor drive technology,” says Craig Sacks, MD of Turnstar.

To ensure safe pedestrian passage, the glass wings of the waist-height Speedgate Kinetic open away from the pedestrian and the optical motion detector sensor array provides dynamic following of the pedestrian through the Speedgate Kinetic. In addition, the hand-made, expertly welded and polished cabinet includes an LED lane status and direction indicator lights, providing a clear direction path for pedestrians.

The Speedgate Kinetic is made to last, with durability ensured by the 304 grade brushed stainless steel cabinet with 3D design and precision laser cut components. The glass wings are manufactured from 8 mm CNC toughened glass with direct motor mount technology to remove any linkages and bearings which are typically prone to failure. “We are so confident that the Speedgate Kinetic is manufactured for the long haul that we provide a three-year mechanical guarantee and a one-year electrical guarantee,” says Sacks.
