Digital delivery for TNT

March 2003 Surveillance

Warehousing and distribution company TNT Logistics has upgraded its security arrangements to digital at depots across the North West, UK.

Digital Sprite multiplexers from Dedicated Micros have replaced traditional analog/VCR systems at five dedicated warehouse units, housing stock for one of TNT's largest clients. Up to 16 static and dome digital cameras now keep a watchful eye over both sensitive access points externally and on stock internally, where the efficiency of the new system is proving a highly effective deterrent against stock shrinkage.

Pictures from the cameras are monitored on site by TNT staff. Matrix style multiple user control is offered by the in-built network video transmission capabilities. By connecting Digital Sprite to a standard local area network, security staff on-site can view images on a standard PC as well as on the security monitors, opening up access of images to managers from the comfort of their own office.

Live and playback viewing is also accessed round the clock across a wide area network from the TNT Logistics European Security Control Centre in Atherstone, Warwickshire. Images are stored on the unit's local hard drive and downloaded onto CD-Rom for evidential purposes.

Gary Watson, general manager of the Security Division at Bradford-based installers, Southern and Redfern specified a digital multiplexer-based system. He commented: "We regularly specify Digital Sprite because we are confident that customers will appreciate how easy it is to use. For installers, though, the great thing about DS is that it is a genuine plug-and-play solution. With the automatic set-up features, we connect up cameras and monitors, power up and Digital Sprite will automatically start recording."

The company is planning to install Digital Sprite CCTV control systems at other TNT depots as part of a rolling upgrade investment.
