Wavecom's Fastrack GSM/GPRS modem based on the 'WISMO within' approach offers customers plug-in-connection via RS232 connectivity to literally any application for remote - monitoring, switching and control and notification of pre-or post-event status - purposes through either SMS, data or voice connectivity in conjunction with cellular network packages simply through inserting the relevant SIM card package from whichever network is available or preferred.

Remote connectivity

The Fastrack modem utilises existing cellular technology to provide new services for machine-to-machine communications. Because compact Wavecom external modems are rugged enough to stand up to extreme temperatures and shock, they can be installed virtually anywhere, in almost any environment.

With the Fastrack GMS/GPRS modem the consumer can therefore use the existing GSM infrastructure to keep track of dozens or even hundreds of remotely located machines. For example, the Wavecom modems enable them to monitor stocks in candy bar and cold drink dispensers remotely whilst at the same time offering remote maintenance access and event reporting for the monitoring and control of especially critical alarms.

On the road and in control

With its small size and reliable GSM/GPRS capabilities, the Wismo Fastrack is suitable for automotive applications. Development engineers in the automotive world are finding new ways to use GSM in connection with global positioning systems (GPS) in vehicles. One example is a security system for fleet owners.

A vehicle equipped with a Wavecom integrated modem plus GPS can automatically send an alarm to the police or security post. GPS locates the truck within 100 m. The security post sends a data message to automatically shut down the engine.
