Detector with anti-cloak technology

February 2003 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

It has been acknowledged in the security industry that it is possible for an intruder to sufficiently mask himself from the installed motion detector, using camouflage techniques, so that the detector does not identify him as a burglar because it does not detect his infrared radiation.

According to Sesco Security, local distributors of Rokonet products, even when using sophisticated dual technology detectors with both PIR and microwave sensors, there have been many instances when the detectors involved in burglaries do not make a detection. This occurs when the detector is not sensitive enough or intruders have been able to sufficiently mask themselves to avoid detection.

In order to address this issue, Rokonet has developed a new, patented technology called ACT (Anti-Cloak Technology) that has been incorporated into the iWISE Dual Technology motion detector. ACT is a technology breakthrough exclusive to the iWISE detector series.

The technology has been designed specifically for commercial, industrial and institutional installations and is also suitable for up-market residential applications.

ACT will cope with any attempt by a burglar using camouflage techniques to conceal his IR radiation by utilising unique pattern-recognition algorithms within the microprocessor and automatically switch the detector to trigger alarms based on detection from the microwave channel for a predetermined time only.

The method used for identifying a cloaking attempt and making the decision to switch to microwave single channel triggering is described as follows:

A moving, cloaked intruder emits a very weak infrared signal that has a characteristic shape and frequency. ACT uses unique pattern recognition algorithms in the microprocessor that disregard the signal strength and concentrate on the shape and frequency of the signal. After verifying that the pattern of the signal matches that of an intruder and that microwave detection is also present, ACT switches to microwave triggering of alarms for a predetermined period.

The iWISE consists of a powerful microcontroller with advanced digital processing. This enables the innovative pattern recognition algorithms and the quality performance of the iWISE.

Some installations have inherent severe thermal interference or motion sources. Environments that may have hot spots, air drifts, moving objects with high temperatures, or simply described as harsh environments, require a QUAD PIR sensor. In these cases the iWISE DT QUAD is the preferred solution.

The innovative Anti-Cloak Technology enables customers to benefit from both capabilities: dual technology's immunity to false alarms, together with the higher detection ability of the microwave channel.

Benefits of the iWISE DT series include:

* IWISE DT and iWISE DT Quad available.

* 15 m range.

* Flexible mounting height from 2,1 to 3 m.

* Wall/corner or ceiling mount swivel (optional).

* Wall mount swivel with back tamper for high level of security.

* Separate LEDs for better understanding the channels performance while performing a walk test.
