Sensormatic's Intellex digital video recording unit now offers increased image clarity and large archive capacity

June 2000 Surveillance

Sensormatic has announced that its Intellex, an intelligent digital video recorder, now offers increased clarity on live and playback images, larger archive capacity, increased image rate across all system cameras and other new features to make it even easier to use.

Intellex Version 2.0 provides crisper, clearer images for better observation and identification of people and events. An increased image capture rate provides 25% more images per second for more fluid motion video. Users can now get a closer look at live events with a 16x zoom, previously available only in the IntelleCord or Smart Search mode. And more images can now be archived to digital audiotape (DAT) with Intellex's new 20GB DAT drive.

Intellex features a convenient mouse-driven interface to all controls. A sleek, new front panel eliminates pushbuttons, restricting access for unauthorised personnel.

Other additions to Intellex 2.0 include:

* A 'watchdog' feature that monitors the Intellex application and operating system for system errors, and reboots when necessary.

* A sensitivity setting allowing users to adjust the level of change, by camera or alarm, that is detected between refresh images. Higher sensitivity creates a smoother image and a larger file size. Users can determine for themselves the best balance of image quality and record duration.

* A removable back BNC connector panel and on-screen camera termination to make installation and maintenance quick and easy.

* An analog output that lets users install an optional live monitor which continuously displays live images in 1x1, 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 format. It also displays alarm messages.

Networked digital imaging

Intellex 2.0 is also fully compatible with Sensormatic's Network Client, a software product which will allow PC workstations to share video and alarm information from remote Intellex units via a local area network using TCP/IP communication protocols.

The new Intellex unit continues to offer Smart Search for the instant retrieval of desired recordings. Smart Search filters can find recorded events where perimeters were crossed, light levels changed, and/or special types of motion occurred. This feature reduces time, expense and the inconvenience of manually searching through days worth of VCR tape recordings to find a few critical seconds of video documentation.

Intellex's sharp, high-resolution video can be stored on the unit's internal hard drive or archived to a DAT. For investigative purposes, high resolution digital video images can be easily copied and distributed, unlike VCR tapes that degrade with each copy and playback.

The unit also integrates its digital recorder with multiplexing capabilities so that users may view images from any camera without interrupting recording. Images from as many as 16 cameras can be displayed and recorded to one Intellex unit and monitor.

"With its increased picture resolution and higher image capture rate, Intellex 2.0 is even more suited for high risk areas such as money counting rooms, jewellery counters and cash transaction locations," said Ron Nieman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sensormatic's Video Systems Division.
