Reader provides added security

October 2002 Access Control & Identity Management

Cardax has released its Cardax Prox Plus 125 Reader - an industry standard 125 kHz proximity reader for Cardax systems.

The first product for this series, the Cardax Prox 125, a card-only reader, was released earlier in the year. The new Prox Plus 125 reader is a card plus PIN reader, adding another tier of security for organisations requesting this level of identification. The Prox Plus 125 reader has an illuminated PIN pad to allow a cardholder to enter a personal identification number, in conjunction with their card. An LCD panel provides user feedback icons, making the system easy to use internationally. The LED and speaker also provide enhanced visual and audible feedback to the user.

Supporting 125 kHz proximity cards and transponders, the Prox 125 readers read both Cardax proprietary format, and a variety of third-party Wiegand-based formats. Cardax primarily supports its own proprietary format, using amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation. When connected in the CardaxFT system, the readers are also capable of reading the other selected third party formats using phase shift keying (PSK) and frequency shift keying (FSK).

Any number of the supported card formats may be active concurrently within the CardaxFT system using Prox 125 readers. This flexibility means it is possible for a site to integrate the use of Cardax proprietary cards with existing third-party cards in the system. Also, data protection is integrated into Cardax proprietary format through data encryption and unique encoding on the card.

Available in Cardax Cool Grey, or Cardax Charcoal, the Prox 125 readers suit a wide range of installations. The reader housing is injection moulded in a high strength, high impact resistant, engineering plastic. Protective Reader Covers are also available to help protect readers against vandal attack and harsh environments.
