To ensure that movements of inmates can be followed at all times, the Kutama-Sint-Hulule Prison in Louis Trichardt has been fitted with a sophisticated control and monitoring system, which was supplied by Philips Communication, Security & Imaging (CSI).
This maximum-security prison had some particular requirements such as 24-hour perimeter surveillance. Philips supplied a digital motion detector that is suitable and reliable for outdoor use. Another stipulation was that all cameras required secure enclosures. The range of high security housings used for the cameras is tamper-proof and has been specifically designed for and tested in correctional facilities.
CCTV is used to monitor movement within the prison. Features such as automatic video switching ensure every single movement is monitored and the particular system installed at Kutama-Sint-Hulule Prison can be controlled by external control equipment systems.
