Record turnout IFSEC 2002

July 2002 News & Events

IFSEC, the world's largest annual security event, enjoyed an attendance of over 26 000 people (subject to final independent verification by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC), the highest in the event's 29 year history.

Visitors came from all over the world to see 555 companies across the global security industry, many of whom with new products to launch or showcase. According to the organisers, CMP Information, this represents an 11% growth in the number of companies exhibiting at the show since the previous year.

Market director security, Rob Lozowski commented, "I am delighted with the volume achieved in onsite rebookings for next year's show, it reflects a broad vote of confidence from our exhibitors. In a highly competitive international arena, IFSEC continues to grow from its established position as the world's leading security industry event."

One of the new attractions at the show was The Biometrics Village, sponsored by Securicor Information Systems. Visitors who wanted to know more about this aspect of access control made maximum use of the features available and fired a steady stream of questions to the experts on-hand in the Biometrics Advice Centre.

In the neighbouring ACPO Exhibition, which featured many exhibitors with one foot in the camp, home secretary David Blunkett paid a visit to address the adjoining conference where 300 of the UK's most powerful police officers were gathered under one roof. He then toured the exhibition floor of the only major exhibition designed for police forces in the UK. Market director, Simon Foster commented, "We are delighted a senior cabinet member chose the show to launch new initiatives that are bound to have such a major effect on the future of UK policing. This is especially apt as the ACPO exhibition is the only forum available to showcase the policing technologies of tomorrow."

Visitors to IFSEC were able to visit the neighbouring ACPO exhibition, as one ticket allowed free access to all co-locating exhibitions; IFSEC, ACPO and the Safety & Health Expo, the largest European health & safety event of the year.
