Gas extinguishing training courses

June 2002 Fire & Safety

Following the call from the FDIA chairman Keith Norgate for training in gas extinguishing systems (March/April 2002 Hi-Tech Security Solutions), Alien Systems & Technologies (AST) has announced a comprehensive one-day course on fixed CO2 fire extinguishing systems.

The course, which is being run under the auspices of the South African Fire Protection Association, is applicable to all types of CO2 fixed system equipment including low pressure and high pressure systems and will encompass the following areas:

Theory

* Codes and standards for South African conditions.

* Application and uses of CO2 systems.

* Design, installation and maintenance of fixed CO2 systems.

* Inspection and test of fixed CO2 systems.

Practical

* CO2 design using computer program - hands on.

* Room integrity testing - utilising the latest room integrity test equipment.

* Full system discharge test - in custom built extinguishing test room.

Installers, consultants, specifiers and end users are encouraged to attend. The course will take place at the Fire Protection College, Boksburg and the cost is R1000 excluding VAT, and includes lunch. Booking is essential as space is limited.
