iLegal 2019: Big data delivers big benefits

1 August 2019 News & Events

iLegal is the surveillance industry’s premier one-day conference, hosted jointly by Hi-Tech Security Solutions and Dr Craig Donald. iLegal 2019 will be held on 12 September 2019 at The Rosebank Crowne Plaza in Johannesburg.

The conference will focus on the ways and means companies and individuals can realise the full potential of their CCTV installations through the use of new technologies as well as well-trained people.

Manage your data

The IT world has been talking about data ever since the first megabyte was written to a piece of hardware. More recently it has also taken on the mantra of ‘big data’ and how companies can manage and benefit from the enormous amounts of data they collect every day.

The surveillance world has had the problem of big data for years and as concepts like artificial intelligence become reality, the ability to manage video data and analyse it in near real time becomes more important and necessary.

Michael Lever runs the risk advisory and security consultancy, Metagrated. At iLegal 2019, he will be tackling the topic of big data and how to capitalise on all the video packed away in storage systems today. Michael will scope out what it means when we talk about big data in the real world, and how it can interact with and complement surveillance strategies and systems.

Some of the issues to be covered include the quality and integrity of information that managers are likely to be faced with, how you need to build verification into the sources of big data used in the control room and for management decision-making, and he will offer some points on system health monitoring. He will wrap up by discussing areas of concern and potential that managers must consider as part of this wide-scale implementation.

At the end of the conference, Michael will also participate in the demonstration of future technologies that are in the process of being fine-tuned for public release. These technologies have the potential to change the way security operations are managed and run, and will include robot technology, remote covert detection of firearm threats, and virtual control room technologies that will completely change control rooms of the future.
