Vehicle fire detection and suppression systems

August 2019 Fire & Safety

The FireDETEC Compact Line system offered by Technoswitch is a complete, engineered fire detection and suppression system designed to protect engine compartments against fire. This compact, flexible system can be mounted in any orientation to suit the configuration and space available in the engine compartment, making it quick and easy to install and maintain. Alternative systems need to be mounted in a specific orientation, significantly limiting the flexibility of the installation.

The extruded aluminium alloy dual-chamber cylinder is extremely strong and resistant to corrosion, a significant feature for off-road and heavy-duty vehicles due to rough conditions, including shocks, vibration, dust, oils, and heat.

If a fire occurs, the heat causes the pressurised sensor tubing to burst at the point closest to the fire. Sudden de-pressurisation actuates a valve and the entire compartment instantly floods with a liquid-based agent to suppress the fire immediately. The system provides continuous linear detection, requires no external power source, and will not discharge accidentally.

An electronic dashboard unit monitors the system and immediately reports any pressure drop to the operator. Although the system is 100% automatic, an optional manual actuator may be installed.

The Compact Line system offers two extinguishing agent options: The TS55 fire extinguishing agent with anti-freeze protection down to -55°C, which is non-toxic, eco-friendly and completely safe for both humans and the environment. Alternatively, the BerkiCold extinguishing agent, a fluor-free biological foam concentrate, may be used. Both agents quickly remove heat and prevent re-ignition.

The FireDETEC Compact Line system has numerous certifications and approvals including the P mark (in accordance with SPCR183) and FA 127:16 (previously FK 127:2012), one of the most recognised certifications for any off-road vehicle protection system.
