Siemens Building Technologies has relaunched the company’s Fire Protection Systems Portfolio Segment in South Africa. The company is set to offer the full range of Siemens fire safety solutions to the market, distributing its products nationwide through OTN Systems South Africa.
Siemens fire products are used globally in some of the largest environments, including Disney and NASA. With a renewed focus on Africa, the company plans to expand the scope of its operations on the continent by engaging with consultants and integrators, and educating them on the broad scope of solutions available for the largest and smallest installations. Siemens will also support the market with live demonstrations for consultants, end-users, installers etc.
According to Thabang Byl, head of sales for Building Technologies at Siemens SA, the Cerberus Pro integrated fire protection system is typical of the solutions available from the company. The Cerberus Pro range offers fire detection, alarm signalling and control. It includes a wide portfolio of products with extensive safety features for small to large applications.
For example, detectors with ASAtechnology offer advanced signal analysis and selectable parameter sets. As a result, they ensure fast and reliable detection of fire, smoke, heat and carbon monoxide in the most demanding application areas.
Byl highlights a few additional features in the Cerberus system worth noting:
• The fire control panels provide ‘degrade mode’ functionality. This means that even in case of a power failure or a full CPU failure, the detectors communicate an alarm to the control panel and set off the connected sounders.
• Each fire detector and peripheral device has a built-in short circuit isolator, meaning open or short circuits can be easily located.
• The C-Net loop is installed as a ring line; if the line is interrupted at some point, information is redirected via the other end to the panel so that alarms will still be transmitted.
• Line separators are placed on the C-NET where several stubs are connected to ensure they remain functional in case of a short circuit.
