Logging system for remote controls

February 2002 Access Control & Identity Management

Access control pertains not only to that of personnel moving in and out of a building but also to vehicles entering a premises either through a traffic barrier or automatic gate.

Recently, Centurion Systems introduced a very cost-effective logging system for its Smart range of remote controls. The main component is the Supa-Smart multi-user receiver. This unit allows the users to be entered into unique locations within the receiver for very easy maintenance and control. For instance transmitters that are in use can be selectively deleted from the system without affecting any other remotes in service.

Following on from the Supa-Smart, Centurion have developed a logging and time barring unit which 'piggy backs' onto the Supa-Smart.

The Chronolog will maintain on an ongoing basis a record of the last 1000 transactions of the Supa-Smart. Should an incident occur the managers of the premises can extract the following information from the logger.

* Which transmitter operated the access gate or traffic barrier?

* The date and time of the transaction.

* Which output of the Supa-Smart receiver was activated (Supa-Smart offers three output channels and therefore one will know which gate/traffic barrier was operated)?

Using the software provided with the kit, this information is uploaded into a PC and neatly represented in a spreadsheet format where the group number (location) allocated for each transmitter in the Supa-Smart can be assigned to a person's name. Each and every time the loggers data is uploaded the software will automatically process these links and display the information in an easy-to-read format.

In addition to assigning names to each group, one can also assign names to each output/access channel, ie entrance gate, exit gate or staff parking gate etc.

Basic sorting of the transaction list can be performed as detailed below:

* The transaction record can be alphabetically or numerically sorted.

* The transaction record can be filtered for a specific instance of data.

* The transaction record can be filtered on various criteria and within fixed constraints to allow the user to refine the record to the data set of interest.

Centurion Systems will be developing shortly the equivalent of the Supa-Smart for the Nova rolling code/code hopping range of remote controls. Supa-Nova will be totally compatible with the Chronolog.
