Full range of screening equipment available from local company

February 2002 Access Control & Identity Management

As millions of passengers and pieces of baggage pass through airports each day, it is of paramount importance to maintain passenger-screening checkpoints with both qualified screening staff and the latest in screening equipment. One such company that specialises in the distribution of high-quality screening equipment is Hissco, an exclusive distributor for Invision Technologies CT scanners, PerkinElmer detection systems X-ray screening equipment and Iontrack's particle and vapour detectors. Hissco also distributes metal detectors.

The equipment that Hissco distributes assists airport management in expediting the luggage inspection process for both hand luggage and hold baggage. One such product is the Linescan 222 from PerkinElmer.

A Linescan 222 is a very compact, table-top, X-ray security screening system. With a tunnel opening of 521 mm wide by 327 mm high, it is well suited for the screening of small bags, briefcases, backpacks and mail. The Linescan 222 is PerkinElmer Instruments' lowest cost X-ray security screening system equipped with a conveyor.

The HI-PE multizone walk-through metal detector is another product that is distributed by Hissco.

A 'height on person' display actually indicates, by means of illuminated LEDs, the position of the weapon on the person. The location zones are not fixed, as in the case of metal detectors with multiple receiver-transmitter coils, but are variable and continuous so as to achieve optimum resolution.

The panels are washable and equipped with shock-absorbent edges to protect them against damage.

The detector's control unit is incorporated into the structure. Access to programming is protected both by a mechanical lock and by two alphanumeric passwords.

The HI-PE Multi Zone is manufactured conforming to ISO 9001 quality control procedure standards.

Other products distributed by Hissco include the CT scanner which is especially suited to detecting sheet explosives, the Itemiser and Vapour Tracer which are both used to detect minute quantities of narcotics and explosives.

All detection products that Hissco distributes are used amongst others by South Africa's airports, airlines, government departments, mines, refineries and banks.
