Axiohm's next-generation POS printer, the A758 with integrated magnetic ink character recognition (MICR), assists with combating cheque fraud at the point-of-sale by allowing for MICR data to be captured without operator intervention thereby eliminating the possibility of collusion, deliberate deception due to altered MICR characters or just plain finger trouble. The A758 features an MICR read head incorporated into the slip validation path that reads cheque data on insertion of the cheque. This allows the retailer to then verify the data against their own database of previously issued bad cheques and to get direct access and verification from the issuing bank if they are connected to the bank network.
In addition to this added security measure, the A758 offers the option of printing both sides of the cheque in a single pass, which not only reduces the possibility of errors being made in the completion of the payee and value sections of the cheque, but also reduces the lengthy transaction processing time that is normally associated with the acceptance of cheques at the point-of-sale.
