Network cameras make full use of Windows XP

Axis Communications' network cameras were demonstrated at the recent Microsoft launch of the Windows XP operating system in New York. The Axis network cameras are trendsetters in Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), an architecture supported in Windows XP. Consequently, users of network cameras can take advantage of the enhanced network capabilities of Windows XP directly from the start.

Axis, which took part in the launch of Windows XP, demonstrated that Windows XP, with its built-in support for UPnP, makes it even easier for Axis network camera users to administrate the devices over networks. Microsoft frequently uses Axis network cameras to demonstrate the operating system because the products clearly show the benefits of the UPnP in the Windows XP operating system.

"Microsoft is pleased that Axis Communications is enhancing the Windows XP experience by offering UPnP-supported network cameras to our customers", said Shawn Sanford, Group Product Manager for Windows XP at Microsoft. "The combination of Windows XP and Axis network cameras will elevate the network integration capabilities of Windows XP."

Axis is an established member of the steering committee of the Universal Plug and Play Forum (UPnP). The UPnP Forum aims to create new standards for networked products in order to simplify use and integration.
