Bekaert Bastion recently announced that it is extending its factory by an additional 1000 m2 to accommodate new machinery to produce high security razor wire. This is the second phase of the joint venture programme and represents an investment of R5m. The move comes just four months after Bekaert opened its first factory in Africa at Bekaert Bastion's Western Cape headquarters.
Under the guidance of Bekaert's technical laboratories where the research and development team pioneer new security blade profiles, the company will now be able to offer local and export markets a range of specialised products for maximum security. Bekaert Bastion's Managing Director, Michael Rodenburg, adds: "We already have orders for our specialised razor wire so we have to be in full production by January at the latest."
First off the new production line will be significant orders of razor wire for a Malaysian prison and for a 46 km stretch of border defence between the UAE and Oman.
